Spring DWA

Survival is a Key

Envision yourself taken away from your family and placed inside a huge wilderness. You and 23 other contestants will fight until only one person remains, and they will be crowned victor of the Hunger Games. Suzanne Collins Catching Fire is one exhilarating book that deals with survival and family.

During the whole book of Catching Fire survival was a key exceptionally in the Hunger Games. In the Hunger Games Katniss did a lot of survival techniques, and some of these techniques I saw during the TV show Man vs. Wild. At one point of Catching Fire Katniss needed some food so she set up snares she made from the jungle just like Bear Grills did on Man vs. Wild. Collins Really showed the readers in this book how effective survival techniques can be if you know how to use them.

While survival was huge part of the book, don’t forget about family. Throughout the whole book Katniss was always Loyal and nice to her family. She also looked out for her sister and mom and fed them. I can relate to Katniss because I look out for my three sisters and I’m loyal to my family. Katniss wasn’t always nice to her family, like when Katniss found out she had to go back to the Hunger games she got really mad and yelled at her mom but later apologized. The good thing about having a loving family is that their always there for you when your sad, for example when Katniss thought her sister Prim was dead she started crying but her mom calmed her down and told her she was alive.

Throughout the whole book Collins used survival and family in very good spots of the book. With that being Collins truly seceded in telling her readers what survival and family can do for you, and from those themes she created an excellent novel.

No Fun in the Sun

Authors Note; This essay is about a girl that gets bullied in a terrible way. The essay will inform kids what bullies can do  to kids and how to handle them.

Visualize a place where it rains for seven years and then near the end of the seven year period the sun comes out for one hour. During that one hour period you get locked in closet by a bully until it’s over then somebody lets you out, and it’s raining again for 7 years. All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury is a very sad short story that deals with lots of bullying and what bullies can do to kids and how it can affect a kid’s life.

Throughout the whole short story of All Summer in a Day the main character was constantly being bullied, she was being called names and pushed around, and other mean stuff. I can relate to the main character in this book, in second grade I was bullied and I got called names and pushed but you cannot show the bully that he is getting inside of your head or he’ll continue doing it. You just have ignore bully or tell a parent, (Margot) the main character just ignored the bullies the whole time but the most effect way to get them to stop is telling a adult that’s what Margot did wrong.

In real life when kids get bullied most are too scared to tell an adult what’s going on, because they think that the bully will make fun of them even more. If a kid doesn’t do that the bully will get into his head eventually, and then the kid will start to believe stuff the bully says like “you’re so stupid” or “you’re not good enough to play that sport”. In the end most of kids will think they’re worth nothing so some attempt to commit suicide. According to https://cybermentors.org 20 kids every year commit suicide because of bullies. Bradbury really shows the readers in his book how bullies can crush kids and make them think they’re worth nothing.

All Summer in day is in fact one great short story also it shows the kids young and old what bullies can do if you don’t handle them correctly. Bradbury short story is truly one sad book but a great life lesson for kids so they know how to handle bullies in the future.

Burried Alive

Authors Note: In this piece of a literature analysis essay I will explain how Micheal Northrop did a terrible job on this piece of writing. Also in this paper I am going to work on perfecting my conclusion. Please leave some feedback on how I can improve this essay.

Imagine your school is being canceled because of the snowfall, your parents aren’t showing up to take you home. You and six others are trapped for the night the power goes out, the pipes freeze, and you have no way out. Trapped by Michael Northrop has a very bad ending and the book was super slow, also the characters didn’t develop at all.

In the book Trapped it was outrageously slow and the ending was terrible. At some points of the book it was so slow you wanted to fall asleep. There was one point in the book where the main character spent 2 chapters trying to find a certain food in the cafeteria, in those two chapters the main character took forever to find the food he kept finding certain food he like but then he changed his mind and started looking again. Alongside the book being slow the ending was dreadful. The ending of the book was cut a chapter or two short, and that really makes me mad because I just wasted a couple of hours of my time to find out what happened  at the end of the book the author cut it a chapter short  . The author really needed one or more chapters to clear everything up with the reader and that would have made the book a lot of more interesting.

The development of the characters in this book was very poor. The main character in this book never developed at all, at on point he had a chance to be really brave and brake a window with his fist but he passed it up because he was scared of getting kicked off the basketball team. Seeing that the main character didn’t develop at all, neither did any of the other characters. The shy girls never talked to anyone, and the tough guy never got any smarter. This book could have been a great book and way more interesting  if the characters developed.

Even though most of the book Trapped was bad Northrop was able to get the lesson learned through with the reader, never take risk and always be aware of things. Michael Northrop should have made many changes to certain parts of the book. The book Trapped truly turned out to be one terrible book.

What Number Are You?

Authors Note: In the literature analysis essay I used AB transitions, and tried to come up with a proficient conclusion please leave some feedback to help me improve on these things

Imagine being a super hero that’s being chased around by villains who want to kill you. You struggle on a daily basis to stay hidden and use your powers. Just imagine that humans are finding out about your super powers and they think you’re an alien. “I Am Number Four”, by Pittacus Lore has a phenomenal introduction that pulls the reader in, and descriptive details that paints a clear picture in the readers mind.

During the book I Am Number 4  you’ll find out that it’s unlike any other story you’ve ever read. The introduction really pulls you out of the real world and into the book. Great details aren’t the only things that are amazing in this in the beginning of this book, the introduction also has a great deal of foreshadowing that brings a chill to the bone. For example here is a sentence in the book “His sight and hearing are beyond humans. He dodges trees, rips through snarled vines, and leaps small streams with a single step. Heavy footsteps are close behind him, getting closer every second”. (2)

In addition to I Am Number 4 having a fantastic introduction, don’t forget about the very descriptive details. In the book I Am Number 4  the details really bring out all of the exciting action and adventure in the book. For example “The blade ignites in a silver flame as it points to the sky, as if it’s coming alive, sensing its mission and grimacing in anticipation”(4). In that sentence the details are so amazing you can really feel and sense the action in this book.

The book I Am Number 4  really teaches readers how details can be very clear and what a great introduction looks like. I am Number 4 by Pittacus Lore used great details and an introduction to make the book itself an amazing book to read.

My Favorite childhood memory

Authors Note: I picked to write about my favorite childhood memory, because whenever I write about it brings back good memories.

It was about 7:30 AM, and I just awoke from bed. For a second I sat on my bed thinking random stuff, and "Boom" it hit me I have school. I ran down the stairs to see my mom and dad eating breakfast and reading the paper. "Mom, Dad" I exclaimed, "I have school"! "No you don't Jake it's a snow day" my mom said. Then within a second a big grin came on my face and I ran upstairs yelling "Snow Day"! I went into my room and quickly got dressed out of my sleep clothes. I ran down the stairs and asked my mom if I could have my friend Sam over.
I was just about to call, but the phone rang just as I picked it up. "Hello" I said. "Hey Jake this is Sam, I was wondering if you wanted to come out and play in the snow with me". "Sure" I said in a happy tone. My mom got me all dressed and I went to Sam's house. When I was there we went out in the snow right away, we started building forts and had a snow ball fight. Then after we were done with that we had some hot-coco and we were back outside in the cold. We wanted to play some snow foot ball so we called Sam's neighbors Ben and Jack.
We played the longest football game in the history of games, and the next thing we knew it was 6:00 and it was getting dark. Mrs. Ramlow (Sam's mom) came out and told us we should start heading home. Everyone was starting to go home after, and we were all home real fast, because we all lived near each other. Once I got home I ate dinner with family and watched a little TV, but then I had to get off to bed for school tomorrow. For a couple seconds I sat there on my bed thinking of what an awesome day I just had.

Favorite sport poem

Authors Note: I have chosen to write a poem about my favorite sport soccer. I'm not the best poet in the world. So please give me so comments to help me be a better one.

Everyone is up on their watching in silence.
Then two seconds later the crowd screams GOAL!
Every step I take in soccer is a moment to remember in my life.
When I score it's the best time of my life.
And if we win I'm the most happiest person in the world
Sometimes our team wins or loseses.
When we lose I think of what we I did bad, and I improve on it the next game.
But most of all my favorite part of soocer is just playing with my friends that are on my team
Soccer to me is my life, it's fun exciting and my favorite sport
I will never stop playing it, and watching it.
Soccer will be in my blood forever.

Destructive Force

"Is the hurricane over mommy"asked my little brother. "Just about I'm guessing, because it be on for 2 days. In the morning after that harsh night I woke up at about 9:00 AM I went up stairs to see if my dad was home from chasing that storm last night. My dad is a storm chaser, and last night he had to leave to follow the hurricane. I look out the window and my friends house was almost fully destroyed. I looked out on more time to see what the ambulance was doing, and all I could see was my friend in a stretcher with an oxygen mask.
Could this day get any worse I thought. I walked into the Kitchen to find my mom making breakfast for my brother. "Do you want anything Jon" she asked. "Sure why not" I exclaimed. Just then I started eating the doorbell rang. "I'll get it" mom said. I tried to see who was at the door, but I stopped trying to see who it was just as mom burst out in tears.
I turned the corner an I saw to military men dressed up and My mom crying. The military men looked at me and said in a very low tone "kids I'm sorry to say, but your dad is dead. My brother and mom started crying, and I just sat there thinking this can't be happening my friend is dying and my dad is dead. I sat their with a glum look on my face. I don't no how many kids are out there in the world, but I know that there are not many kids that lose their dad and best friend on the same day.
